Third COVID-19 wave over in India

Considering the weekly COVID-19 case numbers, the third wave of the pandemic appears to have ended in India. 

As per the case tally, the pandemic is at its lowest point in almost 2 years, since mid-May, 2020. The country registered less than 43,000 new COVID-19 infections in the week ending Sunday (February 28-March 6). This figure was lower than that registered in the week before the third wave started, when 46,073 cases were logged in the week from December 20-26, 2021. Moreover, this is the lowest figure in 22 months, since the week of May 18-24, 2020, when 40,490 infections were reported.

The cases have declined by more than half in each of the past four weeks. Fatalities have also been on the decline. India logged 626 deaths in the current week, which is the lowest weekly toll since 495 deaths reported in the week from December 27-January 2… (ET Healthworld – TNN, March 7, 2022)
